Wear, Worn, Weird – Diablo Cojuelo Mask Design

This project explores identity and cultural heritage through the reinterpretation of the Diablo Cojuelo mask, a traditional symbol of the Dominican Republic’s vibrant Carnival celebrations. Reflecting both personal and cultural significance, the mask merges tradition with modern aesthetics, incorporating my favorite colors—light blue, pink, white, and black—to create a unique, contemporary take on this iconic figure. The handcrafted design captures the playful yet mischievous spirit of the Diablo Cojuelo, emphasizing intricate detailing and bold contrasts. This piece serves as a personal and artistic exploration of self-expression, fusing folklore with individuality while honoring the rich traditions of Dominican artistry.
